Faiz Ahmed Tayyab, Special Assistant to the Principal Advisor on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, said that the country’s exports of information and communication technology (ICT) products will increase to 5 billion or 5 billion US dollars by 2030. He said, “We will present the draft of the Personal Data Protection Act for discussion in the Advisory Council by July 15.” As a result, there will be no obstacle to Bangladesh’s entry into the European market in the IT sector in the future.’

He made these remarks while addressing the guest of honor at the two-day BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) conference held in the country for the sixth time. The conference was organized by the Bangladesh Association of Contact Centers and Outsourcing (BACCO) in collaboration with the Information and Communication Technology Department and the Business Promotion Council of the Ministry of Commerce at the Army Precinct in Mirpur in the capital this Saturday morning.

At the conference, Faiz Ahmed Tayyab said, the government feels the three needs of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector – incentives, ‘payment gateway problem resolution, office facilities. We have already been able to launch Google Pay. Apart from this, we are in talks with the payment gateway ‘Strip’. Apart from this, it may take us some time to bring PayPal to the country’s market. However, for this, many of our teams, including BIDA, are working together.

Stating that there are plans to create software parks in multiple places in Dhaka, Faiz Ahmed Tayyab said, Dhaka City Corporation has shown us several lands around Kamrangirchar and Mirpur. In addition, there are plans to establish BTCL’s old land in Tejgaon and a high-tech software park in Purbachal. If the software park is established, we will be able to rent offices for you at a low cost.

Faiz Ahmed Tayyab also said that although there have been various digital initiatives in the country for so long, they were not interconnected. Each was an isolated ‘digital island’. Therefore, the interim government has taken the initiative to build a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). The government may increase incentives in this sector by reducing incentives in conventional sectors to prioritize the frontier technology and AI sectors.

The chief guest of the event, Adilur Rahman Khan, Advisor to the Ministry of Industries and Housing and Public Works, said that the biggest strength of the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry is its inherent potential. The development of the IT-enabled services sector requires integrated policies, modern infrastructure and effective support from the concerned ministries. The Ministry of Housing and Public Works is also giving importance to the technology-based approach in the development of smart city planning, IT parks and office infrastructure.
